A few days ago, my buddies and I went on a bachelor party in Minnesota, but we ran into an unforeseen problem. While we were canoeing down the Minnesota River near Carver, we heard a loud yelp that caught our attention. Among the crew was Mitch White and me, and we were set on figuring out what was going on.
They were surprised when they came across a St. Bernard that was firmly trapped in mud not too far from the water. The dog was completely submerged except for its neck. They were unsure of what to do in that situation. White made a lighthearted comment about how his future wife, Kelly, wouldn’t approve if they left the poor dog behind.
Using their paddles, they worked tirelessly for about 30 minutes to save the dog that was stuck. The dog, named Ed, was too feeble to move, so they gave him food and water. They eventually got in touch with emergency services, who helped reunite Ed with his owner, George Niskanen.
According to Niskanen, Ed had a tendency to wander off occasionally but would eventually return. However, the Carver County Sheriffs Office contacted him to inform him that Ed had been missing for a full day, and they required his assistance regarding his beloved pet’s whereabouts. Niskanen expressed his appreciation to the Carver County Sheriffs Department and Carver Fire Department for their help in bringing Ed up the hill. He was ecstatic to see Ed happy and back to his normal self. Niskanen also felt that everyone who participated in the bachelor party deserved recognition for their contributions.
Niskanen shared that he is keen to find out who the individuals were that assisted Ed so that he can personally thank them through a customized card. According to Niskanen, Ed initially had difficulty walking upon his return home, but he is now making a steady recovery and slowly regaining his strength by consuming nourishment.
